Programmes & Sessions

From single sessions to full wellness transformation programmes.

Individual Therapy
Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is about giving you one-on-one attention and a comfortable, private setting to explore the many different issues you encounter in your life such as:
1. Anger, anxiety, depression, and ADHD
2. Recent trauma, such as the death of a loved one, abuse, or a breakup
3. Substance abuse
4. Problems at work or school
5. Loss of motivation
6. Strained family and/or personal relationships

Whatever your issues may be, individual therapy can be a life-changing experience.
Some of the benefits of individual therapy are:
1. Adding to your support network
2. Gaining a better understanding of yourself and improving self-confidence
3. Learning how to handle emotions
4. Identifying underlying causes of symptoms
5. Utilizing effective coping strategies
6. Managing symptoms
7. Facilitating lifestyle changes

The key is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, which means your therapist will work to create an individualized plan based on your needs.

At Luminare Counselling, we implement corrective emotional experience. This exposes you to emotional situations which you may have struggled with in the past. Going through the event again (under more controlled circumstances) will help you move past the trauma.

Therapy for Teens
Therapy for Teens

Parents were teenagers once. They feel they know what it's like to be a teen. After all, they've been through it all before.
Teens feel that the world has drastically changed and parents have no idea how it feels to be a teen today.
It almost seems like parents and teens are speaking two different languages.
At Luminare Counseling, we're fluent in speaking parent and are very well versed in listening to teens. We can help translate for both, which results in a better understanding between parents and their teens.
The reason teen therapy works are that sometimes teens just need someone to talk to who isn’t a family member, about the complex, difficult topics they’re experiencing. Someone whom they feel won't judge them and will provide objectivity as they look to navigate all of the constant issues they're facing.

We help teens with:

  • Depression and AnxietyBullying
  • Anger
  • Trauma
  • Grief
  • Stress (Academic & Personal)
  • Relationships with Family & Friends
  • Body Image and Self Esteem
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
  • Substance Abuse
  • Self-Harm
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Sexuality
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Specific Phobias

Couples Therapy
Couples Therapy

Love is an intense feeling of deep affection. It is a powerful and beautiful emotion that brings a lot of joy to an individual.
It is the intensity that love brings, which can not only bring us both a lot of joy but also a lot of pain.

Does this sound familiar to you?

Trust issues, past pain, poor communication, and unspoken conflicts can all get in the way of deep, healthy relationships. People often come to couples counselling when things get “bad enough” that every day with their partner seems like a war zone and they are thinking about ending the relationship.
When that happens, a couples therapist can provide you with a safe place to address unresolved issues and provide effective conflict resolution strategies to help make your relationship stronger.

How We Work With Couples

Couples therapy differs from individual therapy in that your therapist is treating you and your partner as a couple. This therapy is not focused on the interest of one of the partners, rather, it is focused on the best interest of the couple.

However, couples therapy does include individual therapy at times so that your therapist can get to know you and learn your history and perspective as an individual as it pertains to your relationship. You do not need to be married to go to couples therapy, any type of relationship or partnership can benefit from doing couples counseling.

The Gottman Method (turn this into a section)

In our practice, we help couples using the Gottman Method. This evidence-based method was created by Dr. John and Dr. Julie Gottman, and focuses on nine foundational components that are needed to build a healthy relationship.

Its interventions are designed to help you both strengthen your relationships in three primary areas: friendship, conflict management, and the creation of shared meaning. As a couple, you will learn how to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions and repair past hurts that are not talked about. Techniques on how to increase closeness and intimacy are used to improve friendship, deepen emotional connection, and create changes that enhance the couples shared goals.

Family Therapy
Family Therapy

Family is important. Family is also very complicated.
The entire family system can face challenges, which can include trauma, financial stress, grief, or loss, to a point that it can become too much to manage on your own. In family therapy, we focus on the system as a whole and the complex dynamics between all of the family members. We help you and your family understand the dynamics at play and provide guidance on how the entire system can heal. Only when healing the system, can each part family member’s needs can be met.

During family therapy, we listen to your concerns through structured sessions and support your family so you can move forward. We can help parents, children, and siblings learn to communicate and understand one another. We help point out the hurtful behaviors so that you can see how they influence everyone.
Family therapy can bring your family closer and at peace. Patients and their families are often amazed at the extent to which an individual can make positive changes and overcome emotional or behavioral difficulties, by examining and making changes within their family relationships and dynamics.

We often help families with:
Conflict between Parents & Children

  • Conflict between Parents
  • Dealing with Family Medical Issues, chronic illness, and coping with grief
Family politics
  • Parenting through Divorce
  • Dealing with Child's Behavioral Issues
  • A Family Member has Substance Abuse Issues
  • Communication Difficulties
  • Blended Family Dynamics

❓ FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about working with me.

Will therapy work for me?

Just as with everything else in life, the commitment and desire you have to better yourself and your life will be key. The more committed you are to showing up to therapy and implementing the methods you learned into your life, the more likely you will be to create the transformation and healing you seek.

Is therapy necessary? Can I just talk to a friend?

Friends can give great advice but going to therapy offers you to hear from a professional. Therapists are objective and have your best interest in mind. We are here to improve your quality of life by acting as guide.

What happens in an initial therapy session?

Our initial therapy session will be an assessment in which we will gather your history, explore your struggles, and establish your treatment goals.

How will I feel after therapy?

How you feel when you finish therapy will depend on your specific goals. Most clients feel more self-aware, relieved, and confident. Our hope is that you will feel capable of handling whatever life throws at you with the tools we have equipped you with during your time with us.

Is virtual therapy secure?

Of course! We use a secure video calling software that requires a password to enter. Passwords are only shared with you. Any resources used in the therapy are shared privately.
Not tech savvy? No problem. We'll help you test your set up before we start a session. We also offer phone sessions if you prefer.

Will what I say in a session remain confidential?

Yes! Everything we talk about will stay confidential between you and your therapist. As per our college regulations, the only reason we would need to break confidentiality is if:
You disclose that a child or vulnerable adult is being subjected to abuse or neglect
You disclose an immediate intention to end your life or the life of another person
Your involvement in a legal matter and the court subpoenas your file

Do I need a referral?

Not at all! You do not need a referral or diagnosis from a physician to begin therapy. Anyone who wants to learn skills and improve their quality of life can start therapy!

What is the cancellation policy?

We respectfully request a minimum notice of 24 hours for cancellations or rescheduling of appointments. Failure to comply with the cancellation policy will result in a charge of the service fee.

How does pricing work?

Our prices are based on our therapists' years of experience and training. Our price ranges from $165 to $195. We also offer sliding scale options to keep our sessions accessible to everyone. We do direct billing to most insurance companies to (make this a question). Book an appointment with us to learn more about pricing specifics.

Is therapy cost-effective?

At Luminare Counselling, it is! Therapy can be claimed on your taxes as a medical expense. This means that your income tax will be reduced.
We offer group therapy which is great option for those looking for a more cost-effective option.
Sliding scale prices are available to fit your budget and to make our services accessible to you.

🌟 Our Mission !

On mission to help People Illuminate from within !

Long before written language, people used their words to tell stories — passing on wisdom from their own lives in the hope of helping others through theirs. References to healing through words appear in Egyptian and Greek writings more than 3,500 years old. Therapy carries that same intention forward. Any healing relationship is a sacred one, and not something to be entered into lightly.

At Luminare Counselling, we have helped people create real change by working with them to examine their moods, feelings, thoughts and behaviours — supporting them as they learn to take control of how they respond to the challenging situations they face, in a way that is healthy and lasting.
